Need help with Transsera?
Most questions are answered below. If yours isn't, write to me directly. Every message reaches the developer, not a help desk.
Signing in
How do I sign in?
Tap Web Login and sign in on Coursera's own page, just like on the website. Your password stays on Coursera's page. Transsera never sees it. After you sign in, the app keeps you signed in between launches.
The sign-in page doesn't work or rejects my Google sign-in
Tap Trouble signing in? on the sign-in screen. There you can:
- Try again reloads the sign-in page without signing you out of anything.
- Compatibility lets you choose how the built-in browser presents itself to the website: Standard (recommended), WebKit or Desktop. Tap Apply to reopen the sign-in page in that mode.
- Browser session lets you sign in with a session from a browser on your computer (see the next question).
Google sometimes refuses sign-in inside apps' built-in browsers. If that happens, try another compatibility mode, sign in with your Coursera email and password, or use a browser session.
How does “Browser session” sign-in work?
- On your computer, sign in to coursera.org in your browser.
- Open the browser's developer tools → Cookies → coursera.org.
- Copy the value of the CAUTH cookie.
- In the app, open Trouble signing in? → Browser session, paste the value and tap Log in.
The value is a key to your account. Use only your own session and never share it with anyone, including me. Coursera may end the session earlier than expected, in which case just repeat the steps.
How do I sign out or switch accounts?
Open Options → Logout. This removes the Coursera session and coursera.org website data from the app. Then sign in with the other account. When a different account signs in, the previous account's downloaded lectures and cached courses are deleted from the device.
Translation and watching
How do I translate a word?
While a lecture plays with subtitles, tap a word, or select a phrase, in the subtitles. The translation appears above it. Tap the translation to open a detailed page from the translator. Word translation is part of the Subtitles Translation purchase.
How do I switch between Google and Yandex, or change languages?
Choose the translator in Options → Subtitle Translation. Pick the language to translate into from the subtitle settings in the player. The list comes from the selected service, so it can differ between Google and Yandex.
Translation doesn't appear
Translation needs an internet connection, even for downloaded lectures. Check your connection and try again. If the problem continues with one translator, switch to the other one in Options and let me know.
Are there keyboard shortcuts?
Yes, on iPad with an external keyboard:
| Key | Action |
|---|---|
| Space | Pause / play |
| ← → | Back / forward by the interval from settings (10 seconds by default) |
| Shift + ← → | Back / forward 30 seconds |
| − = | Speed −0.05× / +0.05× (0.2× to 5×) |
| M | Mute / unmute |
| ? | Show all shortcuts |
Why does the app reopen my last lecture?
On launch, Transsera returns to the last week you opened and highlights the last video, without starting playback. Tapping it continues from the saved second. A lecture is marked as watched after you play more than 90% of it or get within the last 20 seconds.
Downloads
How do I download lectures?
Tap the download button next to a lecture, or next to a week to download all of it. Downloads need the Offline Mode purchase. Downloaded lectures play without an internet connection, with their subtitles.
How do I free up space?
Delete a single download, or all downloads of a week, with the delete button in the lecture list. Deleting the app removes all downloads.
Purchases
I bought a feature, but it isn't unlocked
Open Options → Purchases and tap Restore purchase. Make sure you're signed in to the App Store with the same Apple ID you used to buy. If it still doesn't work, email me with the date of the purchase. You'll find it in your App Store purchase history.
Is there a subscription?
No. Subtitles Translation and Offline Mode are one-time purchases. Nothing renews or charges you again.
How do I get a refund?
All payments are handled by Apple, so refunds are too. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Privacy and data
How do I turn off analytics and crash reports?
Turn off Options → Privacy → Share Analytics & Crash Reports. Analytics stop right away and crash reporting stops after the app restarts. See the Privacy Policy for details.
How do I delete my data?
- Options → Logout removes your Coursera session from the app.
- Deleting downloads, or deleting the app, removes lectures and cached course data from your device.
- Turning off analytics and crash reporting stops future collection as described above; it does not delete reports already sent. Retention and deletion follow the processes described in the Privacy Policy. You can also email us with a deletion request.
- Your Coursera account and its data are managed on coursera.org.
Is this an official Coursera app?
No. Transsera is an independent, specialized browser for accessing your Coursera courses and is not affiliated with Coursera Inc. For questions about course content, grades, certificates or your Coursera account, contact Coursera support.
